I’m so happy and excited
I’m so very relieved
I found a therapist to support me
With my SSP
The moment the screen came up
The second I saw her face
I felt calm and relaxed
In a good mental space
Her openness
Her smile
Her warm energy
Reminding me of my best friend
Coincidently
That easy connection
That we shared from day one
A calm relatedness
The moment our friendship began
And it taught me a good lesson
Just for today
If my body isn’t comfortable
Simply walk away
Make a conscious effort
To trust my instinctual gut
Notice my over-analysing
Does my heart feel shut?
I’m currently reading another book
All about trauma healing
Called Waking the Tiger
Written by Peter Levine

The chapter I’m on
Is all about our ‘felt-sense’
A bodily awareness of a person
A situation or event
It’s a difficult concept
To define with words
It’s a means through which
Our instinctual voice is heard
It’s that ability to listen to
And trust our gut
It’s an open connectivity
When our senses are NOT shut
Our felt sense is that wonderful
Human capacity
To feel more natural
More grounded
With increased creativity
But for those who’ve experienced trauma
We need to be aware
That our felt sense can be affected
It’s not 100% there
Part of the dynamic of trauma
It cuts us off from
Our internal experiences
We become a little numb
To our sensations and emotions
That could so easily overwhelm
Our body’s natural way of protecting
Of taking charge of the helm
And the downside is that
We don’t learn to listen to
What our body is telling us
When stress starts to accrue
Instead, we routinely
Hook into other things
To numb the emotions and feelings
That day-to-day life may bring
Alcohol
Drugs
Cigarettes can do the trick
Over-eating or over-working
It’s like a carrot on a stick
But as we heal and grow awareness
We start being more intune
As we begin trusting and allowing
More internal experience to come through
We start tapping slowly
Into our instinctual voice
Becoming aware of our sensations
And that we have a choice
To deepen and expand
Our body’s ability to feel
The first step that enables
Our trauma to heal
But it takes patience and time
As you train this sense to grow
As you connect with your body
Learn what it wants you to know
So I’m grateful
So very grateful
I’m slowly getting intune with me
Conscious of my body
More aware of my needs
