Day 9: Be Brave Challenge – Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Years ago when I was studying to become a life coach one of good friends in London, Harvey,  gave me a book called…”Don’t sweat the small stuff”. I will not be doing a book review on that book because quite honestly I was way too busy sweating the small stuff to even read it. (I apologise Harvey…but lest we forget who found you your beautiful wife in a hot spring in Pai, Thailand all those years ago😉.) So today, for some reason, (that will soon become apparent)…I found myself thinking of both Harvey and his favourite book at that time.

Story 1: Today I wore my favourite palazzo pants with the widest legs imaginable. They truly look like flashbacks from the 70’s…they may not be fashionable but dam I love those pants. 🤗 So I am walking to class happy as a pig in shit when my palazzo’s accidentally trip me up. Luckily I didn’t actually fall….but I did manage to throw more than half a cup of coffee all over my face and my poor palazzo’s. Some little grade ones ran over with horrified looks on their faces as I attempted to wipe coffee out of my eyes. Random thought: “Gees you really are a clutz Gayle” and then I was on my way. Walked into my room, where Constance is sitting chatting to her ever -present mini-fan club, regaled her with a colourful account as to why I was drenched…laughed our heads off and we started teaching. End of story.

Story 2: I got a call from Sars today. (Don’t you just love those calls) Every year I go into Sars and let them sort out my tax. I don’t proclaim to know anything about tax, nor do I ever plan on learning. I simply go in, give them my figures, get my bill and pay it. (One day soon I plan to pay someone else to do it for me. Life is too short to do your own tax) This year however, I was amazed to discover my tax was incredibly low. I argued with lovely Sars man…insisting it couldn’t possibly be that low….but he assured me it was. I left smiling thinking maybe my mum had sent me an early birthday present. 🎂
Apparently no such luck….as I was informed today the money owed is a little more than double of what I was originally quoted. I thanked nice Sars lady, assured her I would look into it, hung up and continued with my planning. End of story.

Ok, so what’s the point you might be asking? Well, a couple of years ago I probably would have allowed a face full of coffee to set the tone for the rest of the day and it probably would have spiralled down from there. I sure as hell would have also been a nervous, sobbing wreck receiving a bill like that. Today I was neither. That in itself is a bloody miracle!

I do believe that I might finally be learning not to Sweat The Small Stuff😎. (What an awesome book that was….I highly recommend it😉)

Am friggen exhausted though….

Have a fantastic day tomorrow 😍😘🤗🎼🎼
