Master of Rhyme

Now that I feel like

The master of rhyme

I decided to check out

Great poets of all time

Byron, Shelly, and Maya Angelo

So I could investigate

the competition

Solicit some tips

Find ways to tweak…

My own poetry writing

Oh my God! Why’d I even

choose to go there

As I perused their greatness

My angst started to grow

Perhaps I know nothing

About this poetry fandango

What’s this I see?

So many poems don’t rhyme?

Like a kindergarten child

My poems rhyme

ALL THE TIME!

Perhaps I should write

a rhymeless poem about a tree?

I’m so bloody NOT inspired.

(Is that a crime?)

Now, wait just one minute

Calm yourself down

You have great inspirations

They just need to be found!

Julia Donaldson?

(Who wrote The Gruffalo)

Adrian Mole?

(He’s NOT A POETyou know!!)

Yes, but Sue Townsend was amazing

She ALWAYS made me laugh!!

(We are talking about POETRY

stay on the path!!)

Be patient, I’m sure

I will find more to show

How about Doctor Seuss?

Yes, there you go

Oooooh!!! Giles Andreae?

(Giraffes Can’t Dance!)

A book about finding your confidence

And learning to prance!

OMG, come on Gayle!

That’s children’s crap!

You aren’t seriously

Going mention all that?

No Wait! I’ve got it!

I’ve got it, you see!

It’s child- like, it’s honest

It’s my heart on my sleeve

It comes from my soul

It’s what I perceive.

The timing may be off

The rhyming words toooo MUCH

But I can’t help it, I think

My poems are hot stuff!

You won’t need Google

To find cryptic

Hidden meaning

Most of my poems

Come from my crazy

Manic dreaming

Granted, they’re random

But these playful little rhymes

Set my soul free

So, I will stop with the comparisons

I’ll put the stick down

Happy I don’t want to be

The next William Brown

I won’t pretend to have all the answers

Or hide my fuck ups

I’ll lay them on the line

To be scrutinised close up

At least when I die

I can say I put myself out there ….

Now isn’t that fucking great!!
